I. Idolaters Condemned (14:1-11)

* The Lord told the elders who came to Ezekiel, "Repent." They had set up idols in their hearts. They had put wicked stumbling blocks in their secret inside.

On the outside they looked religious and pious when they came to him to see what the Lord might say through the prophet. Yet on the inside they loved to entertain sin. They were told to turn from their heart idols and renounce all their detestable practices. If they do not, then judgement will come to them. These words remind me of Jesus' warning to the people who came to him asking for more food after he feed 5,000, and the Pharisees who lived good lives since childhood.

The Lord told the Jews that not all will perish in the judgement to come. The repentive and those who love God will survive. Jesus said the same about the 12 who stayed after the crowd who asked for food left.

The Lord's word is also to me. The Holy Spirit wants me examine my heart. What idols do I have? Is my motivations pure? What is the true desire of my heart? Have I fooled myself in thinking I am all right and worthy of a blessing? Have I humbly ask the Holy Spirit to help me examined my heart? The sins made in the heart are just as bad as conducting them on the outside. Now I ask the Holy Spirit to reveal my heart as I meditate.
